Who Are We?
Dreams have come true in a gun shop in Kendall. At the young age of fifteen, Scott Johnson decided that he would one day own a gunsmithing business, which happened when he opened The Village Gunsmith. The Village Gunsmith is so much more than they typical gun shop. Scott holds a class seven FFL (Federal Firearms License) manufacturer license, which is not as common.
Scott came by his expertise in firearms honestly. From his first BB gun at the age of nine to a three year stint in the Army. During his service he was the 6th infantry division pistol team champion. After his discharge he earned his BS in Education from UW Platteville, but never set foot in a classroom. After a time Scott found himself working at Fort McCoy as a range safety officer and weapons instructor for mobilizing soldiers to Iraq and Afghanistan.
Finding himself laid off due to the cutbacks at Fort McCoy, Scott decided it was finally time to take the plunge into entrepreneurship. The Village Gunsmith is the product of that childhood dream. Scott grew up as a farm boy on his family’s place in Clifton, where he still lives today with his two kids, he has a daughter and a son. The feeling of family is thick in the atmosphere as soon as you enter the shop. The shop is a haven for dabbling hobbyist to the serious enthusiast.
The Village Gunsmith may be a dream come true for Scott, but it is also a dream come true for the local firearms enthusiasts.
Janel and her husband, Tim, partnered with Scott to help grow the gun shop. Janel has had a love of firearms since she was a little girl. In recent years she had not nourished her passion of the hobby. After her husband introduced her to Scott, she found an outlet for her hobby. As a woman in a male-dominated field, Janel finds that her involvement in a gun shop to be surprising for a lot of people. She hopes that her presence in the shop allows for an environment more accepting of all types of shooters.
Janel passion is pistols. She is building a collection of concealed carry holsters and love to talk to customers (especially women), new to the concealed carry lifestyle, about carry options.
Janel and Tim have two teenage sons that share their passion for firearms, shooting sports, and hunting. The boys can often be found on the weekends helping out in the store, along with other young firearms enthusiasts that tag along.
